Princess Nikki

Supernanny - Jo Frost

I watched Supernanny last night, Jo Frost helped single mum Tara tame an evil four year old brat who ran off in front of moving cars, swore like a sailor and threw punches at his mum into someone that was quite sweet, a pretty amazing turnaround. There’s also some pretty good advice on her website as well about dealing with bad behaviour and unruly kids.

The best way to deal with bad behaviour is not to reward it. It’s often possible to pre-empt tantrums and bad behaviour by being prepared. For example, if your child is easily over-excited, planning in advance to leave an over-stimulating situation (such as visiting relatives or a birthday party) before it all gets too much, can be a good tactic.

By the same token that incentives help encourage good behaviour, sanctions can discourage bad. The rule is to warn the child verbally and then if they still continue to misbehave to apply the sanction. Sanctions may include taking away privileges such as having a friend to stay, doing something they enjoy or even a fine.

Which brings us in a roundabout way to Big Brother Loser Nikki Grahame. Her temper tantrums, hissyfits and shamelessly attention seeking could easily out strop any of the toddlers on Supernanny. So it seems a bit odd that E4 have decided to reward Nikki’s bad behaviour by giving her a whole TV show, Princess Nikki, until you look at the scheduling. It’s on quite late on Wednesday night (way past the bedtimes of most Nikki fans who are probably on curfew anyway) and it’s not repeated as a result I imagine audience figures will be quite pitiful. No one will be watching. So rather than rewarding her, Channel 4 in their infinite wisdom, appear to have followed Jo Frost’s advice and banished Princess Nikki to the Naughty Step. Hurrah! In space, no one can hear you scream!

This wasn't in the script! You pwomised I'd win! Nikki blubs big time
