Freddie’s Dead

They killed Fred! Torn between two women, Fred Elliott, Coronation Street‘s serial proposer and living embodiment of Looney Tunes’ Foghorn Leghorn, ran from the church before his bride, Bev Unwin arrived, to say goodbye to Audrey Roberts, the real love of his life. “I’ll not be seeing much of yer in the future,” he said with remarkable foresight before keeling over. Well, that’s summat new. Ah seh, that’s summat new.

Fred Elliot is Dead

It’s hard to understand
That there’s love in this man
I’m sure all would agree
That his misery was his
Woman and things
Now Freddie’s dead
That’s what I said

You are what you eat: Katie Price

The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living

If Dr Gillian McKeith ever decides to give up being a nutritionist, she could always become an artist. Last night’s You are what you eat (Channel 4, 11/10/06, 8:30pm) featured a life size 18 stone statue made entirely from burger meat. I suspect that it wouldn’t have looked out of place next to Damien Hirst’s “The physical impossibility of death in the mind of someone living” and I bet it was probably a lot tastier too!

Trinny and Susannah undress: Brian and Froso

Last night Trinny and Susannah were doing a makeover on a couple named Brian and Froso. The couple’s kids, Charlie and Jordan managed to steal the show. All of them are sat in a room talking. Trinny and Susannah want to know what the boys think of their parent’s clothes. Charlie says, “My dad is a very good dad but the way he dresses is crap”. When asked about his mum, Jordan says, “She just wears the same things everyday”. Trinny and Susannah then pushed their luck a bit and asked, “So what do you think of Trinny and I?” and little Jordan, bless him, replied, “Well, you look a bit old ladyish”.

Pete Bennett dumps Nikki Grahame

I was joking last week when I wrote: “And finally a little plug for next week’s Heat Magazine, in it you can read an exclusive interview with Pete about why he’s dumped Nikki!”

But z-list celebrity life being stranger than fiction, Pete Bennett has finished with Nikki Grahame and there was an exclusive interview with him about it in Heat Magazine (23/09/06)!

Best Headline Ever?

And the award for best headline ever relating to the possible end of the world goes to The Sun, who chose to honour the impending nuclear holocaust by referencing the musical, The Sound of Music. And no North Korea headline would be complete without the Kim-Jong Il doll made popular by the film comedy Team America.

The Sun - How do you solve a problem like Korea?

And the award for second best headline for impending nuclear annihilation also goes to The Sun with “Bad Korea Move”. Its the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).

Grey’s Anatomy

I decided to watch the Grey’s Anatomy omnibus the other weekend on Living TV. All the episodes from the second series of this soapy melodrama about the love lives hospital interns were being shown. However, having watched the following sketch from the excellent That Mitchell and Webb Look (BBC2,Thursdays,9:30pm), a comedy sketch show from the makers of Peep Show (channel 4), I couldn’t take it seriously.

Lisa Butcher and Mica Paris - What Not to Wear

What Not to Wear has returned to the BBC with Trinny and Susannah replaced by Lisa Butcher (the not-very-good host of the first series of Britain’s Next Top Model) and Mica Paris (soul singer, Radio 2 DJ and Strictly Come Dancing contestant). Meanwhile, Trinny and Susannah, the Statler and Waldorf of the makeover world have a new show over on ITV rather imaginatively called Trinny & Susannah Undress.

The first episode of the BBC show featured two women who have much younger boyfriends and the second episode featured two women who have had mastectomies. The first episode of the ITV show featured a older man with a younger girlfriend and the second will feature a couple where the woman has had a mastectomy, at least according the Guardian TV Guide.

Is this just a spooky coincidence or is there a just a teeny weeny little bit of rivalry going on? If it is a case of handbags at dawn, who’s going to win?

Well, the format of What Not to Wear has changed slighty. The 360° mirror is still there but the show now starts of with a crowd of people who are whittled down to just five. Lisa and Mica then pick out the final two from a dramatic police style line up. For me, this doesn’t work, there’s not really enough time to get to know the people so you end up not really caring who gets through although I suppose you do get to snigger at a lot more fashion frock ups.

Lisa: More importantly, Mica and I don’t seem to have..
Mica: The onscreen chemistry of Skinny and Fatty. So..
Lisa: To compensate for this the makers of the show..
Mica: Asked us to finish of each other’s sentences..
Lisa: Like this which is really annoying.

Meanwhile, Trinny and Susannah Undress will focus on couples – and how to help them put the sexiness back into their marriages by updating their clothes. Yes! Not only can a makeover improve your wardrobe, it can also solve any relationship woes. Hurrah!

And instead of the 360° mirror, they have a segment called Naked Truth in which the featured couple are made to strip off behind a screen and talk about one another’s bodies.

Big Brother Broke The Rules

ICSTIS, the premium rate phones watchdog, has ruled that Channel 4′s Big Brother broke the rules and breached its guidelines during the series which finished in August. More than 2,600 complaints were made after it was announced that contestants – already evicted by a phone vote – would be allowed another chance to win.

Viewers claimed they had been misled after paying to vote out housemates and complained they would not have bothered ringing in to get a contestant evicted if they had known the rules of the competition would change.

Channel 4 has managed to weasel out of paying a fine because of their claim that Big Brother was an “editorially inventive show” but they must pay almost £50,000 in administrative costs.

An ICSTIS spokeman said: “The unprecedented number of complaints for this type of service, combined with the undoubted strength of feeling of the complainants, clearly indicated that voters genuinely felt that they had been misled over this twist.”
