Britain’s Got Talent: Connie Talbot

This is a clip of Connie Talbot from Britain’s Got Talent singing “Somewhere over the rainbow”. Bookies all over the UK are apparently tipping the 6 year old to win the ITV show.

Look, I know she’s cute and has a lovely singing voice but is it really a good idea to push young kids into the limelight? It’ll all end in tears, mark my words!

UPDATE: Connie Talbot is through to the final, click here to read more.

  • Not being funny or anything, just making a point.

“Look, I know she’s cute and has a lovely singing voice but is it really a good idea to push young kids into the limelight? It’ll all end in tears, mark my words!”

She isn’t actually being pushed. She never has had singing lessons and she only did Britain’s got talent to sing to the queen and Simon Cowell.

  • I think Connie Talbot has wonderful talent and should be encouraged. If she’s encouraged at this age, she could grow up to be a famous artist and do Britain proud.

  • Isn’t that connie adorable! I am voting for her

  • she is just great, in her age singing like that, i will never even thought about it…… i am voting for her…:)

  • Connie is just a lovely little person who enjoys entertaining people – and does it excellently!

I believe that a whole variety show, fit for the Queen, could be produced using some of the acts competing here.

  • Connie Talbot is a beautiful child with a beautiful voice. No doubt about it.

She knocked out both the audience and the judges when she sang Over The Rainbow on Britain’s Got Talent.

You could see the tears, not to mention the £ signs, in Simon Cowell’s eye as he watched her.

Connie’s proud mum should chew on the fact that the first child star to sing that song was Judy Garland.

Before she allows her daughter to get swallowed up by Planet Fame, she might also usefully read the biogs of those, such as the late Lena Zavaroni or the precocious Britney Spears, who began their careers at much the same age as Connie.

Let your six-year-old show off to friends and proud family by all means, but don’t, please, put your daughter on the stage, Mrs Talbot.

Kids and showbiz make for a lethal mix.

I don’t believe ITV or anyone should encourage children of Connie’s age to perform publicly.

    It’s exploitation.

  • aaaaaarrrrhhhh yes i agree with you,,,,,,, but she has a most beautiful voice,, and i want to hear it and will pay good money to hear it,funny thing is about the auditions etc, the performer who did their gig last, got the phone vote,,,, the next two were a combination of the next best act , and a bad one,,,, the bad one was always voted through, so in the final we have 3 good acts and 3 not so good, but i think,,,,,, hope,,, and pray that connie wil win

  • naomi
    get a grip
the kid is a sensation and how refreshing from the awful; z list celebs fr the likes of big brother…connie rocks

  • when connie did her first song ” over the Rainbow” she got as good as a standing ovation from the audience – about a thousand people – well just imagine her doing it infront of the queen – thousands and thousands of people in the audience on that night – all stunned and quite – when she sings – like people have said though no matter what happens – she is a true star – and will just get better and better – goodluck in the final connie

  • Just read an article about her in the Mail if it’s true I think she deserves to win but I think her parents will need to be careful how they handle it.

She’s never had a formal singing lesson. Instead, she has had to hone her skills on a £39.99 karaoke machine.

But Connie Talbot, the six-year-old star of ITV1′s Britain’s Got Talent, is already being hailed as the “next Charlotte Church”.

And after wowing both the audience and the judges – in particular Simon Cowell – she is now tipped to earn more than £1million over the coming year.

Indeed, so impressed was the 47-year-old pop mogul by Connie’s performance, that he has preliminarily agreed to sign her up to a seven-figure deal with his own record label, Sony BMG.

Despite the avalanche of attention, she is keeping her feet firmly on the ground.

Indeed, after progressing to the third of the live semi-finals, Connie declined a celebratory restaurant dinner in favour of a chip supper at their three-bedroom home in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, alongside her parents, Sharon and Gavin, and 14-year-old brother Josh and sister, Mollie, 12.

She even refused to tell anyone at school about her show- stealing performance – the first her teachers knew of Connie’s television debut was when they watched the programme for themselves.

While Connie is desperate to take Cowell up on his offer, her 38-year-old mother, a part-time utility worker, is rather less enthusiastic.

“I’m a big worrier,” she said. “I just want my Connie to stay the way she is. I never wanted all this for her – I never took her to dance lessons or singing lessons.

“But I wouldn’t be able to turn down a record deal with Simon because Connie would just be like, ‘Yes!, Yes!’ She’d feel like Leona Lewis from the X Factor who, along with Joss Stone, is her absolute idol.”

Mrs Talbot, who bought her daughter a karaoke machine because the family could not afford singing lessons, also revealed that Connie only discovered she could sing in tragic circumstances – when her grandmother, Violet, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“When her grandma was really ill in bed, Connie used to sing the DVD to the Wizard of Oz to her, to cheer her up.

“It was her grandmother who first told me, ‘She’s really good, you know’”

Following her grandmother’s death two years ago, at the age of 72, Connie sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow at the funeral.

“Her grandmother would have been so proud,” Mrs Talbot added. “She had her fortune told years ago and was told her she was going to have a famous grandchild – maybe that’s Connie.”

On Monday night, seven million viewers saw

her sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow at the reality show’s Birmingham auditions.

She received a standing ovation and left the programme’s three judges, Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, speechless.

On Saturday night, viewers and the trio of panellists will vote to decide if Connie makes it through to the following evening’s studio final for the chance to sing in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Show and win £100,000.

“This girl is just special,” Cowell told the Mail last night. “I have never felt such a powerful silence in my life as when Connie sang. It was pure magic.

“She’s all over the world at the moment, this girl – she’s the number one clip on YouTube, for instance – and that’s a worldwide number one.

“She’s got a wonderful opportunity here and I’ll make a prediction that Connie will sell more records than Joss Stone this year.

“Of course a record deal with a Sony BMG is on the cards – but only if Connie wants it.

“We can’t go rushing into anything. I will initially talk to her and then I’ll have a word with her mum and see what she wants.

“She could easily make a million quid-plus this year, but of course none of this is guaranteed until the competition is over.

“I think a comparison with Charlotte Church is interesting – she’s certainly got a shot.”

Last night, Connie said: “I am really excited. Simon is my hero.”

  • As much as I would love to see little Connie perform for the Queen, I think it would be such a shame if the incredibly talented Paul Potts had to miss out. I would like BOTH stars to be allowed to share the top prize. They deserve it!

  • connie 2 win !!!! she has an amazing talent and her parents must be so proud . good luck in the final u deserve it !!!!

  • Although I was pleased Paul Potts won the Britains Got Talent T.V show, I was disappointed for Connie Talbot and a couple of others. It would have been really lovely if all 6 acts or the top 3 acts could have all been allowed to perform on the Royal Variety Show,we need some new refreshing talent and this show had it.

  • Connie was lovely. I thought she and Paul Potts were the best, I am pleased one of them won. It is obvious that Connie hasn’t been ‘pushed’ into the limelight, she wants to be in it – and if her parents stopped her, they would be doing her a great injustice. As long as she’s enjoying herself, there’s no problem. Talent, nurtured carefully in the right direction, is a wonderful thing.

  • I think they all deserved to win.

I’m pretty sure Connie Talbot will get a recordimg contract as will some of the others.

  • To me, Connie did not have a very good singing voice at all. I know she was popular with the public because she was young, brave and cute, and surprisingly popular with the “experts”, but I’m afraid that the truth is, that her performances left much to be desired.
She frequently sang out of tune, sang too softly, she slurred over the notes, her vibrato was overly forced and all over the place (her head shook most of the time), it was also emphasised incorrectly and in the wrong places.
She did well to perform in front of the audiences and indeed, has the basis for a good voice I am sure. On the “potential” vote, I’m sure she may have won, but for a performance fit enough for the Queen; professional coachingwill be essential, and in a few years, who knows..?
And please, I could do without a tyrade of abuse from her die-hard fans, but that, is a true evaluation of her singing voice, and perhaps will explain why she was not good enough to win the contest.

  • Awwww Connie didn’t win – I was working at Maccy D when they
told the public who won – I had to find an excuse to watch the telly in the staff room.

SC – I think carefully done Simon would have probably given her voice coaching sessions to finish off the little problems. I think that what Simon’s looking at – not a lot of work to be done but to a level Connie already has a special voice.

I do think however parents are right to be worried about whether to accept the contract Simon’s going to offer them.

I read in the newspaper that Connie was the one who pestered her parents to get her in the competition AND she had actually said if she did win the competition she will give lots of her money out to the poor countries.

Now at six years old, this young one has recognised that this world needs help and can’t help feeling that if her parents does say yes to her for the contract – she’ll be donating money as she loves to watch charity programs.

Awww Connie – you are a winner in anyone’s heart – especially your gran – you’ve done her and your parents proud. All the best.

  • Finals Voting Disgrace: We could’n't get through, tried and tried, my wife kept giving up, in the end we regd a vote, it took 22-28 minutes. How many must have given up? The winner for our money was Connie, she’s a star.
Thats two great Connies we now have.

  • of course she’s being pushed.

Kids are open to suggestion and are gullible. The fact she was entered is tantamount to that. Do you think she completed and posted her own application form? Who gave her the words to the song? Who taught her how to use a karaoke? etc etc

Just watch the parents eyes light up when they see the little goldmine start earning the dosh!

SHE WILL BE GONE VERY SOON IN THIS DISPOSABLE WORLD OF CELEBS

Many kids this age have ‘nice’ voices.

  • You have to remember there was over two million votes- so that is quite a lot for possibly 5 million viewers.

Her parents couldn’t afford to get her singing lessons and brought her a karaoke machine to sing along with.

Connie must have got song from her nans records.

    Speak soon-xxx

  • The show pulled in 12.6 million viewers. Britain’s gone potty. Sorry, I’ll get my coat!

  • “This girl is just special,” Cowell told the Mail last night. “I have never felt such a powerful silence in my life as when Connie sang. It was pure magic.”

The silence was becasue we couldn’t here her. The sound tech needed a kicking!

Hopefully she’ll be left alone to mature and decide what she wants to do. her parents need a slap for exposing her to this.

  • Connie was special and this show brought out a lot of talent in both singing and variety and it would be nice if the top 3 went to sing or perform for the queen.

  • i am a kid just like connie who happens to have dreams too….like singing! nobody can stop me from dreaming & make it come true just like connie.and, connie is a very lucky girl because her parents believe she can move mountains by singing….so, People Stop saying negative Things to connie’s parents. just sing with her because connie sings like an angel!

  • berwyn philippines,cebu

when you sing, i hear angels singing……

  • All I can say is someone sent me an email with the link to Youtube and I heard her sing, well I cried and searched for the next 2 hours so I could hear her sing and learn about this new little singer from Britain. She is an angel. In the finals she sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” again, but the full version, my god how she pulled that ending off like no one I’ve ever heard before. If anyone at all has a negative thing to say about her, they have serious head trama among other things. A six year old with the voice of an angel, can’t wait to hear her when she’s a little older. I will look for her in the near future for sure. You go Connie, if that’s what you really want! I’m behind you all the way, two thumbs up!!

  • WHAT AN ANGEL I BELIEVE AS WELL,SHE IS SO KIND HEARTED AS WELL;SHE SAID IF SHE WON SHE WAS GIVING THE MONEY TO THE NEEDY,I AM WAITING FOR HER TO BRING OUT A CD OR DVD & I KNOW SHE WILL GO FAR,
I RECORDED HER ON MY MOBILE SO I CAN HEAR HER AT ANYTIME AND BEAUTIFUL CONNIE IS MY RINGTONE,
    LOVE TO CONNIE AND FAMILY.XX

  • Hi…I watched Connie Talbot on “Britain’s got talent” and voted for her to win. I also watched her on “You tube.” Her version of “Somewhere over the rainbow” made my neck hair stand on end, it was beautiful. I would defiinitely buy her cd when it’s released, as will billions of others. However, don’t let her childhood be lost as was Lena Zavarone’s, let her stay as sweet as she is for as long as possible and enjoy her childhood.

Good luck for the future Connie, the whole of Britain is rooting for you.

  • i thought connie should win . she sung buitifully and for a six year old she has a voice like an angle. KEEP IT UP CONNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This thread of comments on a 6 year old includes a full velvet-gloved hatchet job on her singing technique…

If I hadn’t seen it myself I wouldn’t have believed it. Besides the fact that no-one decent would even think of submitting an appraisal of a child as if she were an adult, that contributor has missed the whole point. Connie succeeded because her clearly instinctive singing and totally normal attitude for a well brought up 6 year old are such a welcome change from the archetypal talent show child, fed to the wolves, talent show judges, by a deluded pushy mother.

I hope she has as little success as possible until she has lived al her childhood years to the full: as a child. If she’s good enough then, she will succeed in showbiz. If she doesn’t succeed in show biz, she won’t have been good enough, but at least she will have succeeded in living her childhood the right way.

  • Im am an Australian and i have seen what a wonderful singer Connie Talbot is, I think you should be proud of her and the talent she posseses

  • sure some child stars do end poorly but there are success stories as well. Country songstress LeAnn Rimes has seen success. Wayne Newton started at a very young age. The key is the support network around her and if her parent’s aren’t “stage parents” she should be fine.

  • i think connie is adorable shes a very talented girl i wish i had a sister like her i wish i could meet her iv got her album i listen to her every day she will prove everyone wrong in the near future

well theres nothing more i can say apart from prove everyone wrong connie do what you want to do and be who you want to be you will be like leona lewis a famous star good luck little princess love ya lotsxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • I think you (connie)are a better singer than paul potts i cried everytime i heard your voice.XX well done connie XX.

  • Hello,

I don’t like her voice, the girl cannot sing. I’m saying that because I am a voice actress/singer, a coloratura soprano. I was the voice of Melody from the broadway production of “the little mermaid”…It was only my voice (I was not present on the stage, someone was lipsyncing to my voice as Melody). When I auditioned for that…the judges didn’t care if I was cute or not. They listened to my voice like four times and I had to say up the alphabet, they made me do scales and they even felt if my vocal cords were vibrating as I sang or not.

What I am trying to say is that this girl lays way to much pressure on her troath to produce sound, which is bad (for her vocal cords). Also, if the judges really knew something about ‘singing’ they would know perfectly well that a six year old cannot sing, it doesn’t matter how great they sound (BTW I don’t think this girl sounds good). Plus the vibrato is very ‘off’ in her voice…she moves her jaw to get that.

You see my coach explained me the technique of singing and he said that people can only sing after their puberty. Because only then you’re vocal cords are developed.

I am 18 and even my vocal cords aren’t developed (they are only fully developed in your early 30s).

This girl sings like any other 6 year old kid would. So basically I don’t understand the big deal about her.

    Cheers.

  • teresa coalville leicestershire

if your a singer/actress why didnt you actually leave your name, i think maybe your a little put out that she can actually sing pitch perfect, i think that you must be the only person in britain and over the world that has heard this singing artist as this is what she is. may only 6 yrs old at that time but hey shes a little human being that has more guts than anyone of us she sang over the rainbow in audtions with no backing music and that is hardest thing to for anyone singer she wasnt a note out of tune and i think if your a singer you yourself would know this yourself

  • I do not watch tv, or have access to tv, accidentally heard CT through Utube, immediately went and bought her CD…..Her voice is amazing and would beat Charlotte, and Liona at their equivalent start up point, so no contest, stop comparing!.
have not heard any of the latest cd but the Christmas side sorta put me off, 2 months of the year is christmas so i cant play these songs in June or July, this makes the CD virually useless.

  • As stated ” Singer ” your name will me on any musical or film role that you endevour to participate in so perhapes you should leave your full name, and incidentally my father has been singing now for nearly 60 years and he moves his head sometimes, and no its not altzimas…
    You need another coach.
