It starts with a close up of a rather stoic looking gorilla’s face. In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins is playing in the background. At first I thought it might be a trailer for a natural history programme or an advert asking you to give money to the World Wildlife Fund or some other animal charity but as it progressed the camera panned out and you saw that the gorilla was in a music studio, sat behind a drum kit. Seconds later, the gorilla starts banging out the air drum bit of the song in time with the background music. Cool!
The 90-second film was written and directed by Sony Bravia ‘balls’ creative director Juan Cabral of Fallon London and is apparently part of Cadbury’s new £6.2 million campaign.
Exactly what a drumming gorilla has to do with chocolate is completely lost on me but who cares, it made me smile and that was all the producers say they wanted to do.
Well it just seemed like the right thing to do. There’s no clever science behind it – it’s just an effort to make you smile, in exactly the same way Cadbury Dairy Milk does.
And apparently they’ve got more adverts just like it up their sleeves! I love telly, I do.
That gorilla is so awesome, he is the best drummer ever.
It’s brilliant, makes us chuckle every time, one of the few adverts we look forward to. I love the little gestures, such as the little twitch of his top lip before he starts, he even looks like a hairy Phil Collins.
I think the gorilla’s better looking.
Actually, there was a rumour going around that it was Phil Collins inside the Gorilla suit. No idea whether it’s true or not though.
hello!
xXx
i want to know exactly how they made this advert!
down to how many blokes there were controlin the lips and eyes and how they managed to time the blinking and head shaking sooo welll!
i get that it is a bloke in a suit buuut its still amazing what we can do nowadays aint it…? maybe we should send a bloke into the wild in one of these to see how act with no one about…?
OR!!! we could dress someone up as… nope i lost my train of thought… there was a squirrell outside my window!
what i meant was.. to see how monkeys act when no one i about..
xXx
Maybe they used computer generated graphics for the face.
I think this advert with the gorilla, and the one where that coloured paint shoots out of the ground and splatters everywhere are the best ever!
They beat the “And then they smash them all to bits!” Cadbury’s Smash advert by a mile!
