Big Brother 9: Alexandra De Gale not a muslim

Why does this not suprise me?

Croydon’s Muslims have never heard of Big Brother bully Alex De Gale, despite the housemate’s claim to be a prominent member of the community.

A spokesman for Croydon’s largest mosque said the 23-year-old mouthy housemate, who claimed to be a prominent Muslim in the town, had never been seen at prayers.

And during her time in the Channel 4 house, Alex had broken rules of the Islamic religion including drinking alcohol, he said.

Shuaib Yusaf, from Croydon Mosque, said he had checked with people at the mosque and no one had ever heard of or seen Alex.

He said: “The Croydon Mosque is the main representative of the Muslim community in Croydon.

“We have never seen Alexandra De Gale here.

“We cannot comment on whether she is a practising Muslim or not.

“But if someone is not praying five times a day and is drinking, they are not giving out signals that they are a practising Muslim.

“You can label yourself a Muslim and then justify what you are doing.

“A lot of Muslims drink and say they don’t get intoxicated.

“Anyone can wear the badge but it’s how you walk the walk and talk the talk that matters.”

Big Brother 9: Housemates React To Alex’s Departure

Following Alexandra’s departure via the Diary Room, the housemates were asked to gather her belongings together.

Dale, Darnell, Dennis, Rebecca and Sylvia volunteered for the job and went off to the Luxury Bedroom.

“[Alexandra] was warned before.” Sylvia said, as they did the packing. “She could be the loveliest, happiest person. It was just the other side of her that got her in this kind of trouble.”

In the Living Area, the other Housemates were also discussing Alexandra’s confrontational behaviour.

“It was totally unacceptable the way she kicked off,” said Mario. “It was horrendous.”

“The only thing I thought about her was ‘what is she doing here?’” said Lisa. “She didn’t seem happy.”

“She wanted to cause arguments the whole time,” said Rex. “I haven’t seen one argument she wasn’t connected to.”

“At last we’ll have no more grievances and all that,” said Mario.

“It got to the point where I didn’t want to be in the same room as her,” said Rex. “She was so rude.”

“I am surprised they’ve taken her out,” said Rachel.

“They must have had a good reason,” said Rex.

Big Brother 9: What Alex said

The following is the Channel 4 transcript of the unseen conversation Alexandra De Gale had with Darnell that lead to the decision to remove her from the Big Brother house.

Extract 1
22.17 – in living room discussing the fact that Alex has been nominated
Darnell: Sylvia is keeping it real, said if it had been me, I’d have thrown water over somebody.
Alex: I’m not throwing water at anyone. It’s bigger than that. This is three months, do you know what I mean? Three months in a house. Everyone’s got to come outside the house. Personal offence is never forgotten, do you know what I mean? We’re just inside the house. I’ve got a very, very, very, very, very strong team outside the house, strong, so solid, strong. I look forward to whatever the result. If I get out first, I get out, make the plans. Everyone’s got to come out after that. Every single one of you come out afterwards, remember I told you. Like I say, my team is strong, so strong.

Extract 2
22.20
Alex: I just can’t wait to see my mans and them and see what their plans are, who they got…I’m not talking about those mans, I’m talking about my gangster friends.
Darnell: Collabos.
Alex: They got some instructions to follow out.

Extract 3
22.30
Darnell: That’s what I mean… I’ve never seen anything like this, the people in here aren’t real. It’s like that movie shit, like movie people in here.
Alex: If you go you get to make all the plans, that you wanna make. When you’re in here you can’t do certain things. In my life I’m used to doing certain things. You know people piss me off and I do something like. I can’t actually do that while I’m here. But like I say, I get to go out, see everyone’s friends, I get to see their family. I get to do the shit that I wanna do. Pow, pow, pow.

Big Brother 9: Alex removed from the Big Brother House

Big Brother 9 - Alexandra De Gale removed from Big Brother

Alexandra has been removed from the Big Brother house for repeated unacceptable behaviour. She was called to the Diary Room at 8.25pm and will not be returning to the house.

Alexandra De Gale had been up for the first eviction of the ninth series along with Mario Marconi on Friday, but this has now been cancelled.

Alexandra, who bookies said was the most hated housemate ever, had been warned twice previously in the Diary Room about her behaviour and sparked hundreds of complaints to TV watchdog Ofcom.

She was first warned about her behaviour after launching a volley of abuse at a housemate over burnt chips.

She also attacked Rex for borrowing her cigarette lighter and she was warned for a second time after calling Mohamed a “disgrace” following a task.

Channel 4 realised the following statement about Alex’s removal from the Big Brother house:

This official statement from Channel 4

Contestant Alexandra De-Gale has been removed from the Big Brother House for repeatedly breaking the programme’s rules on conduct by behaving in an unacceptable and sometimes intimidating manner towards fellow housemates.

Alex was in discussion with Darnell in the living room shortly after 10.15pm yesterday evening (17th June), with a number of other housemates in proximity.

Discussing her nomination for this week’s eviction, Alex was heard to make apparently intimidatory comments about her intentions on leaving the House. Shortly afterwards, Dennis, Rebecca and Rex discussed her comments in the garden and were clear that they found her behaviour to be threatening, a view that Rex repeated subsequently during a Diary Room discussion with Big Brother.

This incident follows a series of arguments involving Alex since the ninth series of Big Brother started on 5th June. She has twice been called to the diary room and reminded of the rules governing behaviour towards other housemates.

There has been a strong negative reaction from viewers to Alex’s behaviour with Channel 4 having received a significant number of comments since launch.

Her latest remarks were not screened via the ‘as live’ streaming on E4 but were reported up to senior production staff. In consultation with executives at Channel 4 the decision was taken to remove Alex from the house on the grounds that she had repeatedly broken the programme’s rules governing housemate behaviour, despite twice being reminded of her responsibilities.

Alex was called to the Diary Room at approximately 8pm on Wednesday 18th June to be informed of the decision and was removed from the House without further contact with other contestants. The remaining housemates were informed of Big Brother’s decision at approximately 9.15pm.

Alex was one of two housemates nominated for eviction this week and as a result, in line with the terms and conditions covering phone voting on Big Brother, the latest eviction vote has been suspended.

Angela Jain, Head of E4 and Big Brother at Channel 4, said: “Alex has said her comments were not intended seriously and has apologised, but those comments will be widely interpreted as having been intended to intimidate. Big Brother has very clear rules about housemates conduct and that kind of behaviour is simply not acceptable.

Other housemates have said they found her comments to be threatening and we believe that is a reasonable conclusion for them to have reached given the way Alex has behaved previously. She had already been spoken to twice about her behaviour and, like all housemates, was clearly informed before entering the house that she faced eviction if she acted in an unacceptable manner.”

Big Brother 9: Week Two Nominations

The housemates nominated for the first time this week and they have chosen Alexandra De Gale and Mario Marconi to face the public vote.

As Big Brother nominations go, this one is pretty predictable – but it will still be extremely exciting to watch. It seems that the two people most loathed by the viewing public are, for once, also the two most loathed by the rest of the housemates – yep, Alexandra and Mario are the two who will face eviction this Friday. And this is who nominated who…

Alex first nominates Rex: “We’ve had so many disagreements. He really rubs me up the wrong way a lot of the time. I find him very patronising”. Her second nomination is Dennis. “I’ve recently seen a different side to him – walking round the house, stirring up trouble. I don’t think I can trust him anymore… he’s a poo poo stirrer in my eyes.”

Dale then nominated Mario and Alex giving the following reasons: For Mario, he says, “He’s patronising – he thinks he’s the dad and we are the kids”. Regarding Alex he says, “She’s trying to be nice so she won’t be up for nomination. I think she’s playing a game.”

Darnell nominates Mario and Lisa.

Next is Dennis, His first nomination is Mario and his second is Alex. About Alex he says, “I’ve not been able to have relationships with other housemates as she’s so forced with her opinion.”

Jennifer votes for Mario: “I don’t like the way he acts like my dad”, and Lisa: “She stares at me a lot. Because she’s with Mario, she isolates herself from the rest of the group.”

Next up is Kat. After much deliberation she nominates Alex: “A lot of the time she gives off negative energy”, and then Sylvia: “She always agrees with Alex.”

Lisa first nominates Jennifer. She says, “I feel like she pretends I’m not there. Maybe she’s jealous or finds me a threat.” Her second nomination is Sylvia. Her reason being, “Whatever the time is, she doesn’t care and constantly makes noise. It’s so selfish.”

Next to nominate is Luke. He chooses Mohamed and Mario. Regarding Mohamed he says, “I’m absolutely famished and he’s devouring everything in the kitchen. It’s getting beyond a joke… he needs to understand the word RATION.”

Mario nominates Sylvia. He says, “She doesn’t involve herself with the group and she constantly moans. I’ve never seen her in the kitchen getting her hands dirty. She just cares about her looks”. Next he nominates Dennis, saying, “He’s two-faced and playing a massive game.”

Next up is Mikey. He first nominates Alex, “She’s been nicey nicey over the past few days and it doesn’t fool me.” His second nomination is for Dennis. “I wasn’t sure till last night, but when he stood up and called that big meeting I thought ‘what was that all about?’. Dennis is the biggest bitch in the house!”

Mohamed nominates Alex and Dennis.

Rachel nominates Alex and Sylvia.

Rebecca nominates Alex and Darnell.

Rex first picks Alex. “Her behaviour is very manipulative. I don’t want to see people crying in the house.” His second choice is Mario, one of his reasons being, “He was very horrible to Stephanie.”

Last to make nominations is Sylvia. Her first person is Alex. “I feel she is a very argumentative and manipulative character. She’s had more arguments than anyone else in the house. I think Alex would like to get Rex and Mohamed out as they are her biggest threats.” Her next choice is Mario. “He comes across as trying to take charge and control. I don’t need to be told how to act, behave, what to think or what to feel.”
